We have arranged an Elegant Gathering in Washington, D.C. on May 14, 2016 that will share the beauty and elegance of tradional Chinese refined lifestyle through Tea Ceremony, Guqin music, and Incense Ritual.
Prelude:
Guqin Music
About the Guqin Melody: Flowing Water
In 1977, a recording of the Guqin melody Flowing Water《流水》, was chosen to be included in the Voyager Golden Record, a gold-plated LP recording containing music from around the world including Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Stravinsky etc. It was sent into outer space by NASA on the Voyager spacecraft, representing Chinese music.
Procession:
Incense Ritual
In China, incense burning is a long established tradition to provide pleasant fragrances for rooms and clothing, to receive the divine wisdom, and to drive out evil spirits.
During this Elegant Gathering, you will have an unique chance to experience an authentic and less known ceremony of burning incense. Immerse yourself into the aromatic fumes of refined fragrances and mentally travel back in time.
Transition:
Tea Ceremony
Tea is a magic drink.
It keeps you awake, and it settles you down. If you feel hot, it cools you and if you are cold, it warms you. It makes you feel connected to the nature -- down to the earth and far to the universe.
The Chinese Tea Ceremony was born as a result of the respect for nature and need for peace. For Chinese, drinking tea is all about elegance, harmony and enjoyment.
Postlude:
Music and Meditation
Repertoire of Guqin Melodies:
- Parting at the Yang-Guan Gate 《阳关三叠》
- Ao Ai 《欸乃》
- Evening Song of the Drunken Fisherman 《醉渔唱晚》
